Mission statement: http://www.heroesintraining.org/ is a non-profit 501( c )3 organization designed to unite adults and children with disabilities through a mentoring program. When www.HeroesInTraining.org founder, Randy Alexander, was growing up with Cerebral Palsy, he was always the first. He was the first child with a disability to attend “regular” schools in Nashville. He was the only handicapped person to play organized baseball and soccer. No one like him had been skipped a grade in school or had so many surgeries. Randy vowed to help future generations of handicapped children through his experiences. As he grew older, he saw the world become more technology and information dependant, opening the door for those with disabilities to be the leaders of tomorrow. http://www.heroesintraining.org/ will prepare the children for their roles in the future. Once an adult, Randy realized that he wasn’t the only trailblazer in the disabled community. Many others had overcome C.P., blindness, M.S, etc. Randy decided to pull these people together and give the disabled children of today what he and his peers never had: someone to talk to that understood. Randy and his fellow volunteers would use their life experiences to help today’s children avoid the obstacles the adults had long since overcome Thus, fulfilling the organization’s mantra: “Heroes today for heroes tomorrow.” |

Positivity. That word was coined by Donnie Wahlberg. Yes, that Donnie Wahlberg. The one from New Kids on the Block. That makes it officially the only good thing to ever come from a boy band. (Except for Michael Jackson. Hey, Michael rocks! Hee hee, oooooh!) I really like that word, positivity. It's been rolling around in my head a lot the last couple o' months. I wish I would've come up with it. Here's the definition from Dictionary.com:
"the state or character of being positive: a positivity that accepts the world as it is."

Last night, my friend Brad and I went to a concert by a true Rock God, Chris Cornell. Our love for this man borders on the uncomfortable. For over 15 years, Chris Cornell has provided the soundtrack for our lives. Through happiness and tears, his most dynamic voice has fed our souls exactly what they needed to get by. As I hinted, Brad and I are borderline stalkers for this guy. So, being the geeks that we are, we showed up a few minutes before the doors opened. Well, apparently the mellifluous tones of Mr. Cornell sing to the souls of most of Nashville. I say that because there was a line a flippin' mile long from the club of people waiting to get in. |
